Mexico is well-known for its ability to preserve culture and history. You can see it by the way they are able to avoid the complete ruin of the 18th-century architecture in Merida or the temples of the ancient Mayans. You can also find a number of its streets still in cobblestone. Mazatlan, for one, is filled with numerous historical attractions.
Taking a Walk around Mazatlan
Rather than donning on your swimming gear, you can opt to wear rubber shoes or sandals and comfortable clothing, and start to explore the historical wonders of Mazatlan:
Mazatlan Cathedral. Mexicans are fervent Catholics, and you can find their churches and cathedrals filled with pilgrims and devotees almost every day. One of the frequently visited churches in Mazatlan is its cathedral. It was part of the Old Mazatlan and thus may have been around since nineteenth century. Like other places of worship in the country, it is located right across the main plaza. You can hardly miss it with its two huge towers that are not only high but painted yellow. The interiors are full of giant
statues of saints and the Holy Family.
El Teatro Angela Peralta. This theater was established in 1860 in honor of one of well-known opera singers who came from Mazatlan. It was a venue for different forms of arts presentation, such as concerts, operas, stage plays, and a lot more. It still does today, but to cater to the growing crowd and to make sure that every part of it still remains strong, it was restored in 1990. The auditorium is characterized by stacked balconies that are very narrow. Between the months of October and November, hundreds of people flock to this area for the annual arts festival of Sinaloa.
Olas Atlas. This beach is one of the oldest that you can find in Mazatlan. As early as the 1950s, it is already a favorite spot among tourists who want to get a taste of the Mexican waters. It is also a well-known destination for travelers who do not have that much money to burn, especially when it comes to accommodation. If you are looking for privacy, too, you may want to spend your days here. Of all beaches in Mazatlan, this one has far better surfing waves.
Acuario Mazatlan. Found in Avenida de los Deportes 111, this is one of the oldest aquariums in Mazatlan. It was commissioned by the government for the enjoyment of the townsfolk. You can find more than 200 different kinds of marine species here. There are also fun shows that your children would surely love to see, as well as an art gallery and a presentation area for marine life.
Spend a historical day in Mazatlan, and retire in your most comfortable accommodation at Grupo Mayan. Its close proximity to all these attractions allow you to spend more time lounging. You can also ask for more information from the tour desk, if you want to know a little bit of these cultural spots.
